Energy efficient glass is insulated glass and is the new standard with new buildings that need to comply with Australia’s new energy rules and regulations.
Energy efficient glass refers to windows with 2 or more panes of glass. To insulate the window, the glass panes are spaced apart and hermetically sealed, leaving an insulating air space.
In order to minimize heat transfer between the interior and exterior of the window, the space between glazing layers is filled with Argon. Spacers with sealants are used to keep the layers of glazing the correct distance apart. In addition, they provide accommodation for thermal expansion and pressure differences, whilst also preventing moisture build up. This system lowers the U-Factor and SHDC. And reduce energy costs from anywhere between 30% to 50% with selective coatings based on climate. These coatings can filter out 40% to 70% of the heat.
